Project overview

Domus Campus reimagines the commercial showroom as a vibrant hub of creativity and connection. Hewn’s retrofit unites a series of previously disconnected buildings, introducing a seamless spatial flow across showrooms, workspaces, and event areas. The design balances bold architectural moves with commercial awareness, transforming courtyards, light wells, and social spaces into an interconnected experience. Adaptive reuse not only conserves the site’s heritage but also delivers a flexible environment that responds effortlessly to the evolving needs of Domus’ clients and staff.

A tactile and adaptable design allows Domus Campus to transform quickly from showroom and workspace to event venue.

Materiality

Natural tones and tactile finishes establish a calm and enduring backdrop that shape the character of Domus Campus while underscoring the brand’s commitment to sustainable production. Bespoke details, such as exposed steel and terrazzo staircases, stitch together the campus with a strong architectural thread. A custom terracotta chandelier anchors the entrance with warmth and craftsmanship. Together, these elements create a sophisticated and inviting environment that inspires creativity and interaction.

Ben Mailen

Architect & Managing Director
“The Clerkenwell Campus was a fantastic project to be involved in as it not only pushed the possibilities of creative retrofit but also captured over ten years of material research alongside Domus.”
A gallery space for changing displays is one of a number of functions the flexible new ‘hub’ supports.

Sustainability

By reusing and reconfiguring existing structures, the design minimises waste and reduces the carbon footprint while enhancing operational performance. High-efficiency climate control, LED lighting, and self-closing doors support energy conservation, with recorded energy use outperforming projected targets. Reclaimed and recycled materials—such as salvaged oak flooring and recycled-content tiles—add depth and authenticity to the interiors. The result is a flagship campus that embodies environmental responsibility while delivering a high-quality, client-focused experience.
