Project overview

Dan Dan Wimbledon reframes the fast-casual restaurant as a confident, design-led hospitality environment. The project focused on opening up a constrained existing layout to improve visibility, natural light, and circulation, while reinforcing the brand’s identity through targeted architectural interventions. Spatial decisions were guided by both customer experience and operational efficiency, ensuring clear movement for staff and a welcoming, legible environment for diners. The result is a space that feels vibrant and considered without excess, supporting a busy service model while elevating the overall dining experience.

The use of timber and black metal accents, a nod to the aesthetic of the original location, gives the dining area a cohesive and modern feel, enhanced by ample natural light.

Design strategy

Obstructive internal walls and window-side banquette seating were removed to open up the entrance and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the plan. The revised layout improves sightlines from the street and creates a clearer relationship between bar, seating, and circulation zones. An enclosed booth area clad in warm timber introduced toward the rear of the space provides contrast and encourages guests to appreciate the full volume of the restaurant while supporting a variety of dining preferences.

Associate
“Rather than over-designing the space, we focused on a few targeted interventions that would have the biggest impact. Operating within strict parameters, we were able to create a restaurant that feels more polished and confident while still being recognisably Dan Dan.”
Dan Dan Wimbledon’s bold green exterior feels at home within the lively community, while extensive glazing offers a glimpse into the warm and inviting interior.

Materiality

A layered and tactile palette reinforces Dan Dan Restaurant’s brand identity whilst responding to the energy and visibility of its Wimbledon context. Timber finishes and black metal detailing provide a robust architectural framework that builds on the material character of the restaurant’s original location. Bold red metro tiles paired with Dan Dan’s signature neon signage define the feature bar as a focal element. Carefully selected lighting fixtures including red-dipped bamboo pendants and industrial wall-mounted diffusers add texture and warmth throughout, creating a more refined and confident expression of the Dan Dan Restaurant brand.
